Decisions Against Foster Home Placement: A Study of Five Cases Referred to the Catholic Home Bureau, June 1952- June 1953

Jane Estelle Hamilton, Fordham University

Abstract

This dissertation will be a study of children referred for long term foster home placement from June 1952 to June 1953 to the Catholic Home Bureau but who, following the Intake Study, were not placed in foster homes. Specifically covered will be the reasons relating to the inadvisability of such placement in some instances and an illustration of these reasons in five particular case studies. The dissertation will also review, in a general way, the methods of referral, the Intake Study, and the placement process. Some consideration will be given to the background of the Catholic Home Bureau and to the purpose, scope and function of the Intake Department of the Catholic Home Bureau.
