Abstract
This study presents a statistical analysis of putative fathers based on material from a limited number of cases referred for maternity shelter care to the Bureau of Child Welfare, Department of Welfare, New York City in 1960. Information on the unmarried mother was also included to point up the similarities and differences in the parents' backgrounds and to present certain factors which might have influenced the mother's decision in regard to paternity action.
