A Study of Twenty Foster Homes Approved by the Children's Aid Society During the Years 1948-1950 in Which the Expressed Motive for Boarding a Child Was Companionship for an Own Child

Maxine Mary Orsenigo, Fordham University

Abstract

The purpose of the present dissertation will be to study a selected number of foster homes (twenty) approved by the Children's Aid Society of New York City in an attempt to determine answers to the above questions. All the applicants had expressed companionship for an own child as the reason for applying and were approved for the placement of children within the years 1948-1950. Those who applied for children within this period, expressing this motive, and whose applications were rejected, have not been included in this study. The conclusions of the study will necessarily be limited by the small number of cases studied. Some of the twenty approved homes were never used and closed, some are presently inactive and others are active.
