Health Agencies and Family Problems: A Pilot Study, Under the Auspices of a Special Committee of the Division of Families and Adults Within the Welfare and Health Council, of Eight New York Health Agencies in Relation to Servicing Families With Problems Created by Illness or Disability

Abstract

In our century, and especially in this country, man's conscious resentment of his own suffering has exploded into a great diversity of activity in behalf of human welfare." The validity of this statement is an obvious fact as one pauses to meditate on the tremendous advances, both theoretical and practical, made by our social scientists. The reasons behind this social awakening are many, but basically we believe no longer that man is an island unto himself. We have begun to evaluate and plan for all those life situations which weaken an individual's ability to perform self-sufficiently and which promotes dependency.
