The Proxy Mother: A Study of Six Applications From Volunteers for Foster Care at the New York Foundling Hospital, 1947-1950
Abstract
It is the writer's plan to review six cases of Volunteers known to the New York Foundling, who either themselves became foster mothers or who interested their families in foster care. To the writer's belief, these are all the known, existing cases, between March 1947 and June 1950. Of necessity, the writer had to limit this study to Catholic Volunteers, since Volunteers of other denominations also work at the Foundling. These were referred to other agencies if they applied for foster care. The study excludes all Volunteers who directly applied to the Adoption Department.
