Institutional and Foster Home Placement Under One Administration: A Study of He Little Flower House of Providence in Wading River, Long Island, New York, 1945-1953

Paul Benedict Van Wagner, Fordham University

Abstract

The writer desires to make a comparative study of the Little Flower House of Providence showing its development in the child welfare field during the past nine years, (1945-1953), on the basis of the previous study by Sister Mary Aniela Kuzia, in which the fifteen year period, (1930-1945), just prior to this time was covered. It will be so limited as to give the reader a knowledge of the Institution's further development since the time of the aforementioned piece of research. The programs which are to be found within this Institution will be analyzed and thus shown how they meet the needs of the residents. The various services of psychiatry, psychology and social work shall also be analyzed to show how the institutional authorities have utilized and improved them for the benefit of the children in their charge, both in the institution proper and the new foster (boarding) home department.
