The Puerto Rican Newcomer in East Harlem: An Analysis of One Hundred Forty One Requests for Service and the Services Rendered to the Puerto Rican Newcomer, East Harlem Office of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, May 15, 1951 to December 31, 1951
Abstract
The Puerto Rican people constitute the newest migrant group in the City of New York. History shows that the group which migrates into a new country is usually the object of prejudices. A prejudice is but a pre-judgment of a person or group, based usually on preconceived ideas. The prejudiced person is not able to look upon a problem with sympathy and understanding. His reaction is influenced by his attitude. Problems which are based on attitudes and prejudices will never be solved, unless the attitudes themselves are changed.
