Abstract

The problem of the physically abused child is a phenomenon common to every community. It has no limits in its relation to economy or educational levels of parents. It can be discovered in seemingly well-regulated homes as well as in obviously disorganized or broken homes. Physical abuse of children is not a new problem, as it dates back to ancient times when a father had power of life and death over his children. Today we live in a civilization which is essentially family and child orientated and in a society which expresses dedication to the concept that the welfare of children is of prime importance. Yet, we find that many children are still victims of their parents destructive behaviour. With all our welfare laws and advances in social work, communities for the most part, have failed to provide effective measures to meet their problem.
