Parish Social Service: A Study of Three Established Non-Catholic Parish Social Service Programs With a View to Enrich the Program of Catholic Parishes in Harlem, New York City, 1961
Abstract
The virtue of charity was exercised by Christ, Our Lord He made the lame to walk, the blind to see, the sick were cured, and the dead were raised from the dead. His love for humanity was so perfect that He told us “thou shall love the Lord, Thy God, with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul and with thy whole mind and thy neighbor as thyself.” Our Lord, not satisfied with giving the speech to the mute, hearing to the deaf, feeding the hungry; as an inalienable proof of His love for us He died on the cross. By dying He destroyed death, and by rising again restored us to life. He taught us to share our neighbor’s burdens which teaching has been followed through by charitable people both Protestants and Catholics.
