Recreation in a Catholic Home for the Aged A Study of the Leisure Time Activities at the Mary Manning Walsh Home, New York City, January 1952 - May 1955
Abstract
Background of the Study. The need for knowing more about the field of recreation for the Aged and especially the necessity of utilizing the best resources at our command resulted in the unfolding of this research. Recognizing the importance of recreation for the older adult, in the Spring of 1954, the National Recreation Association set up a National Advisory Committee on Recreational Research in this field of which Dr. Luther Gulick is chairman. Among other needs in recreational research, Dr. Gulick points out that:Recreation includes everything man meeds or wants in his environment of life and in his leisure time to give new life to his soul, mind and body everything which serves to re-create his being.
