Schizophrenia in Post-partum Patients: A Study of the Social Adjustment of Three Discharged Patients From the Jacob L. Reiss Mental Health Pavillion of the St. Vincent’s Hospital of the City of New York, 1958
Abstract
Background of the Study. The etiology of mental disorders has given rise to an endless stream of theories, and proven facts are regrettably limited. Orthodox modern psychiatry however recognizes that human maladjustment can be the result of a multiplicity of causes. More and more mental disturbances are being viewed not so much as diseases as disturbances of persons. Stresses in interpersonal relations and in the sociocultural field are no less to be considered than stresses in the biophysical sphere since the organism cannot be separated from its environment.
