A Study of Seven Closed Cases on File at Leake and Watts Home for Dependent Children to Determine Relationship and Adjustment of Siblings to Their Parents, to Each Other and to Their Environment From Varied Time of Placement to Time of Discharge, 1948
Abstract
Background and Timeliness of the Study. Throughout the years there has been an evergrowing debate among psychiatrists and social workers as to the relative psychological importance of the ordinal position to the child in the family. Since the time (1927) Alfred Adler originated his theory, there has been much controversy and many studies undertaken to prove, expand or deny his hypothesis. Adler taught that "the position which a child occupied in his family constellation" was of primary importance in that it affected to a great extent his reactions to life situations.
