Abstract

Emerging from the periods of infancy and adolescence, camping now stands on the threshold of an era in which it will be accorded a mature stature and a significant status in the company of educational, recreational, social, and religious agencies.Background of Study. The camping movement in America is young, having its beginning a half century ago. The camping experience was primarily recreational in purpose and content. The emphasis was on the rugged outdoor experience, the recapturing of the pioneer spirit and manner of life, the regaining by the city dweller of the liberating and refreshing contact with the resources of nature.
