Abstract

Background of the Study. Recently, while the writer was engaged in a group discussion, the topic of slums in the City of New York was discussed. asked many questions, including: The group1. What causes slums?2. Where do we find them in New York?3. When is a neighborhood classed as a slum?4. Who are the people living in the slums?5. How can we prevent slums?6. Why are there slums in the City of New York?Since slums are a problem of concern in most over-crowded cities, the writer decided to delve into the situation. He will attempt in this study to present the relevant factors pertaining to "slum areas" with the hope that it will bring more awareness to the problem.
