Abstract

The Nathan B. Van Etten Hospital is a part of the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. It was opened in 1954 as a General Hospital until the building of the Abraham Jacobi Hospital was completed in 1955. At this time, the Van Etten Hospital served patients with cardiopulmonary diseases. In this 511 bed hospital, the thoracic and cardiac surgical services, the metabolic research service and the pulmonary function and the cardiovascular laboratories for the investigation of patients with cardiopulmonary diseases are also housed.The hospital provides care for patients with different types of acute and chronic chest diseases. A large out-patient clinic provides an opportunity for the long-term follow-up and treatment of patients with a variety of chronic chest diseases.
