A Descriptive Study of the Causal Relationship Between the Emotional Problems of Children With Bronchial Asthma and Their Symptoms

Abstract

Background of the Study. Research during recent years has made us realize more and more, the importance of evaluating the emotional factors in the etiology of asthma. In the writer's capacity as medical social worker at Lebanon Hospital Dispensary, she has had the opportunity to work with physicians on several asthma cases involving children. Consequently, there has developed an awareness and interest in the problems which confront the allergist and social worker in such cases.The material in the study cases used was drawn from cases that are or were known to allergy clinic as well as to the social service department. Therefore in order to aid us in better understanding the procedure followed in studying the asthmatic child, the writer presents a description of the children's allergy clinic at Lebanon Hospital Out-Patient Department (now Lebanon & Bronx Hospital Association).
