Pre-Delinquents Ten Years Later, 1950: A Synthesis of Four Statistical Follow-Up Studies of 320 Cases Handled in 1940 by the Service Unit of the Juvenile Aid Bureau of New York City's Police Department

Abstract

We live in a world where moral and ethical values are subordinated to materialism. Our philosophy of life is such that we compromise our principles of religion and ethics as we follow the course of least resistance and the pleasure-principle. World tensions exhibit the same type of compromise; Munich and Panmunjom are but two outstanding examples. It is in this world of increasing tensions, war and the rumors of war, and international upheaval, that our children are reared. They lack security and stability. Consideration for the rights of others, self-restraint, and ordinary good-manners are considered pass. Individuality is so important that we often forget that the individual has to live with . Other individuals in his family, his community, his country, the world
