A Contribution to a Manual for Children's Center, With Emphasis on the Social Casework Approach

James Edward Hare, Fordham University

Abstract

This contribution to a manual represents the interest of several headworkers at Children's Center in the compilation of data and procedure. Its realization comes about as a written project requirement of a student of the Fordham University School of Social Service.Children's Center is a busy agency with an extensive program. With a large staff, intensive work, and varied programs, a manual becomes repository of experience arrived at by staff discussion followed by successful operation. For years we have been attempting to put case work theory into practice. The size of staff, the wide scope of work, the experimental nature of many projects make it imperative that each department, each supervisor, each worker be left free from excessive administrative detail. This contribution to a manual is devised to eliminate wherever possible the unnecessary conference time spent on details. Many of these details are important and should be considered part of the professional job.
