Abstract

Background of the Study. Hospitals existed as far back as the third century BC in India. A famous inscription mentions that these hospitals were erected for sick men as well as for sick animals. The philosophy in this Indian development was the idea of Buddhist compassion, touring the middle ages, the Homans cared for their sick in military hospitals. Two factors enhanced the existence of the hospitals; One was the emphasis placed on the strength of the Homan army and the other was the value placed on slave labor. In order to exact returns from the soldier and the slave their physical health was of utmost importance.
