Doris Kathryn Daniels, Fordham University

Abstract

Background of the Study. For all of its benefits to mankind the impact of the scientific developments of the modern age has inevitably given rise to many problems. Almost from its very nature, emphasizing as it does mathematical methods and large numbers, science seems to have lessened the importance of the individual. This influence has been felt in all the fields of human endeavor and political, economic, and social issues have been affected. There has been a tendency to engulf the special prerogatives of the individual which is in opposition to the traditional concept of personal dignity that has come to be called democratic.
