Missionary Cenacle Apostolate School of Catholic Action. A Questionnaire Study of the Delegates Attending the Sessions in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: 1946–1954

Abstract

Background to the Study. The concept of the lay apostolate flows from the very nature of Christianity. The history of the apostolate of the laity may be traced to the Seventy-two Disciples chosen by Christ, down through all the crises of history, to its renewal in our present day. The doctrinal foundation of the lay apostolate stems from the doctrine of the Mystical Body of Christ. Confirmation fits man in a special way for this apostolate and the Holy Spirit gives breath and life to its being. Catholic Action is the way the Church's Apostolate is exercised today in a world that has become unified and mature. It is the duty of Catholic-Action to awaken the faithful to the apostolate, to associate them in the apostolate, to organize the apostolate.
