Growth and Development of Education in Nova Scotia

Mary Raphael, Fordham University

Abstract

This paper has no purpose other than the placing in the hands of students of education a bit of history gleaned from authentic records concerning the development of the ideals and aspirations of the people of Nova Scotia as expressed in their educational institutions from early colonial days to the present time.Fundamental changes in the educational system of Nova Scotia have occurred since the first French Settlement was established and no report, however brief, would be complete without mentioning the fact that the basic principles upon which was founded such education as then subsisted, have continued to exert a powerful influence on subsequent educational endeavour in the province.
