Child Placements a Study of Psychosocial Functioning of Families of Children Placed With Catholic Children’s Bureau Archdiocese of Philadelphia, January 1 to June 10, 1963

Abstract

Within the past quarter century, social work and its allied fields have turned their focus toward the family instead of the individual. This seems to have been a logical course although surprisingly, family treatment has still not been accepted by all in the professions of psychiatry and psychology. Yet it must be remembered that "the family is the basic unit of growth and experience, fulfillment or failure." God created the basis for the family unit in Paradise when He said that "it is not good 2 for man to be alone," and gave Adam and Eve the blessing 3 rendering them fruitful, "Increase and multiply." Since that time family life, as the basic unit of society has evolved with the centuries adapting itself to the influences acting upon it both from within and without.
