Community Development: A Definition Applied to the Arriba Juntos Project, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, 1964
Abstract
Background of the Study. The rapid technological advances of the last two centuries have not been followed by an even distribution of their fruits where this distribution has been left to chance or to the uncertainties of human generosity. Western Civilization since the Industrial Revolution has been in many ways a history of attempts to control the resources and the products of industry, often through gross manipulation of peoples and war. There has been at the same time a steady current of political and social movement aimed at giving the individual man a substantial measure of control over his own environment.
