Student Government in the High School as a Factor in the Development of Initiative
Abstract
There is great confusion of the terms--Student Government, Student Self-government, Student Participation in Government, Student Cooperative Government--and attempts to define and properly index the various phases of government have proved futile. The institution of student government in the high schools began about twenty years ago and has grown steadily until now in hundreds of the high schools there exists some form of student government. Any phase of student government manifests itself as a spirit, not as an organization.High school principals rely upon student organizations, activities, and enterprises to secure effective cooperation of the students in promoting school loyalty, good citizenship and community welfare.
