Louis Luke Illich, Fordham University

Abstract

Alkaloidal derivatives of the purine ring have been of considerable interest for many years, inasmuch as caffein, the active alkaloidal principal of coffee has greatly influenced chemical research along the lines of synthesis.Coffee has formed a very important part of the luxuries of civilization since an early date. It has, therefore, not been without its influence on discovery, travel, and the development of inaccessible districts as well as the interchange of ideas and ideals, naturally resulting from the intermingling of different peoples engaged in coffee trafficking.
