John Churchill Webber, Fordham University

Abstract

Background of the Study. Ever since the problem of Narcotic Addiction aroused the public's attention in the spring of 1950 due to the rising numbers of teen age drug addicts and drug users showing up in the records of the youth courts and in the youth counseling bureaus of some of the major cities in the United States such as New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, the need has been constantly growing for more research into the field of addiction and its underlying causes. Although the problem of Narcotic Addiction is not a new one and extends 5000 years back to 1 the days of Ancient Mesopotamia, never before in the history of the world had it taken a hold on the youth of any nation as it had in this two year period in the United States.
