An Evaluation of an Agency-Operated After-Care Program : A Follow-Up Study

Daniel F Chan, Fordham University

Abstract

The main purpose of the present study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an agency-operated after-care program. At present, the staff members at Astor Home are concerned about the effectiveness of their After-Care Program in helping the children to readjust themselves to their environment. Relating to this, several questions have also been raised. First, since the After- Care Program is an attempt to help improve the children's adjustment in areas such as home, school, employment, and community, in what areas of adjustment is the Program more effective? Second, what types of children are responding favorably to the Program, and what children are responding poorly? Third, what are the problems that remain to be solved? The present study is an attempt to answer these questions.
