Reading in the French Course

Bede Edward, Fordham University

Abstract

Before we commence to discuss Reading in the French Course it is extremely important that we have a clear-cut idea of the reasons that we have for teaching French. I am not prepared to discuss the different reasons that might be put forward as a justification for the position that French occupies in our High Schools. I am going to assume that the aims as stated in the Regents Syllabus for Secondary Schools, being as they are, the result of the experience of those best qualified to decide for the Empire State, are worthy of adoption without further discussion.
