The Inductive Method

M. Thomas Aquin, Fordham University

Abstract

At the present day the method most in evidence and which has stood the test of time and experience, is the Inductive Method. Like all fruitful ideas, it is not the exclusive claim of anyone man. True, Francis Bacon is especially identified with the Inductive Method, but others discerned its value and applied its principles long before the Sense-Realist made it live in his works.Macaulay in his Essays (Volume III. P. 459) shows us that Francis Bacon was not the original inventor of the Inductive Method "which, " he says with truth, "has been practiced ever since the beginning of the world by every human being."
