William Joseph Brennan, Fordham University

Abstract

Background of the Study. While employed at the State University Alcohol Clinic, the writer became interested in the problems of alcoholism and its effect upon the population. As a result of this interest and after consultation with the Chief Psychiatric Social Worker of the Alcohol Clinic, Mr. Bernard Clifford, the topic of the dissertation was chosen. Since at the time of the selection of the topic, Yale University was conducting a similar study, but to a greater extent, the writer was able to participate in that research. Also, because of the Yale study, the writer was able to obtain access to more research material and equipment than would have otherwise been possible.
