Housing for the Aged Under Federal Auspices: A Study of the Development of Fireside Apartments, Bridgeport, Connecticut, 1958–1964
Abstract
Housing the elderly is a national problem. There are now in the United States twenty-one million persons who are sixty-two years old and over; by 1980 the number will 1 reach at least thirty million. This increase is due to many factors. The advancements in medical science have given us a longer life expectancy. The labor saving devices furnished by our progressive society act as agents in providing added years for our citizens. A shortening of the work week and the lengthening of the retirement period have also contributed their share.
