Character Formation The Purpose of Education

Clarissa, Fordham University

Abstract

What is Education as understood by the Catholic Church? We read in the Bishops' Pastoral, 1920:--"Serious at all times the educational problem is now graver and more complex by reason of the manifold demands made upon the schools, the changes in our industrial conditions, and above all, by reason of the confusion and error which obscure the purpose of life, and therefore of true education." With the last statement of this quotation, this paper is especially concerned.
