Crown Heights Project, Training Needs of Community Aids

Marian T Martin, Fordham University

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a training program suitable for Community Aides in the Crown Heights Community Project.Initially, this was not intended as a research project, however, the assignment of developing a training program for this particular group involved much more than we had anticipated. First of all there had been no formal evaluation of the program which was at the time of the assignment into its second year of operation. As Community Organizers we recognize that evaluation by its own definition is a learning process. Partly, because the act of discovering the answers to questions such as "how well are we doing?" and why? and "if not, how can we improve?" requires the asking of many related questions and a careful analysis of the relationships of many pieces of information.
