The Uses of Standardized Tests
Abstract
After thorough investigation on the part of many educators, it was concluded that the usual methods of grading written class work or examinations show great variation in grading and that grades are not a reliable means of evaluating the written school product. Grading up to recent years has been convenient from an administrative standpoint but now a better and scientific system must supplement that of grading.Since the compulsory education law forced all types of mind into the school-the dependent, the tubercular, the weak, the slow, the precocious, as well as the normal child--the teachers found themselves face to face with new problems.
