Illness in Family Agencies: A Pilot Study Under the Auspices of a Divisional Committee of the Welfare and Health Council of New York City in Relation to Servicing Families With Problems Created or Intensified by Long-Term Illness and Disability
Abstract
There was a time in the not too distant past when chronic illness was viewed as something of a necessary evil. This was not so much a question of apathy, as of general hopelessness in the face of so many more pressing problems. Gradually with the tremendous strides which were made in the treatment of specific diseases, there developed a feeling of hope that perhaps something could be done about long term and frequently permanent disability.
