Correlation the Open Sesame of the Catholic Teacher
Abstract
This is the poet’s version of the law of association of ideas, and well has he expressed in his figurative language the workings of a well-trained mind. In a chapter entitled "Correlation” the same facts are more literally expounded as follows :"---- --------- as we approach the termination of the school period the subject matter to be correlated undergoes a marked change. The vocational element, which should be entirely absent in the work of the first grades in school, assumes a central place in the advanced stages of the work, and in the closing years of school life it should determine the subjects to be taught and the relative importance of each.”
