A model of leadership for Black/African American women in religious education: A study of the legacy of Olivia Pearl Stokes

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present Olivia Pearl Stokes's critical role as an educational, historical, pedagogical, and pastoral figure within her denomination as a Black/African American Baptist and to highlight how she served as a leader for her time. Stokes was an outspoken advocate for education, children, leadership development, and women's leadership roles in the church.
