AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SEVERAL COMBINATIONS OF LECTURE AND DISCUSSION FOR STUDENTS IN AN EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY COURSE

RICHARD M GORMAN, Fordham University

Abstract

The two most commonly used methods of teaching in college are the informal lecture and the group discussion. Many teachers have found that a combination of these two methods is most effective. The specific proportion of each method that a teacher would use in a com- bination of the two methods would depend on many factors, among which are the ability and personality of the students and the nature of the subject matter.
