Effects of using virtual reality on families and family functioning: Implications for social work
Abstract
Modern technology has advanced its way into the lives of many Americans through the use of home computers. Home computers have helped to increase knowledge and skills in many areas. In addition to the learning aspects of technology, home computers have also brought with it the ability for individuals to communicate to friends, family, and even strangers directly, without face to face contact (called online) in many areas of the world. This expansion of social contacts has enabled individuals to reach out developing emotional and sexual relationships to non-spousal partners in the comfort of their own homes. This study looks at the development of cyber relationships and the effects these relationships have upon marriages and families.
