Abstract
Sexual harassment is rampant in the American workplace, notably in the retail industry. However, because these effects are difficult to measure monetarily and culturally, they are overlooked by investors and shareholders whose goals revolve around financial gains. Through the data of third-party research as well as the analysis of twenty public retail corporations' sexual harassment policies, I have developed a criterion for sexual harassment policies that serve as a guideline for corporations. Investors can utilize these criteria to determine if a company has an effective sexual harassment policy that will help mitigate risks of lawsuits and damaged reputations while also improving workplace culture. These standards will provide a resource for investors to analyze and compare different opportunities they can pursue to protect society’s well-being through their employees. The goal of these criteria is to bring attention to this issue and incentivize companies to discourage unwanted and inappropriate behavior within their workplace.
