Abstract

The study's main research questions are: Does a company's corporate culture have a material impact on its financial performance? Will investors be more likely to invest in companies that recognize and value the importance of strong company values? How may the SASB's standards be expanded to encompass the significance of corporate culture on an entity's financial results? SASB strives to provide standards that are material, decision useful, and cost effective; SASB has the ability to play a comprehensive role in investors' valuation of companies' intangibles. The current standards address risk management, safety, and environmental effects but overlook the materiality of investing in developing a work environment that encourages employee engagement. The following study examines the relationship between the corporate environment and financial success. Recognizing the emerging market sentiment of transforming a business's purpose, the research also considers investors' expectations and subsequent behavior to determine whether additional insight into a company's culture would be decision useful. Finally, the current sustainability accounting standards are examined, and if appropriate, the study will recommend developing SASB's metrics to equip investors' evolving needs better.
