Abstract
Movies have been shown to have an affect on individuals’ attitudes and behaviors, and behavioral finance principles have supported that individuals make investment decisions based on factors beyond numbers and data. The connection specifically between movies and investors’ attitudes and investment decisions remained unexplored. I conducted a survey asking participants about their investment attitudes and investment behaviors relating to six specific movies and corresponding companies/industries to compare if there was a difference in the responses of individuals who had seen a clip of each given movie and those who had not. After statistically analyzing the responses, three of the six movies were found to have changed the individual’s responses, meaning they did impact investment attitudes. The major finding is that some movies do have an impact on investor attitudes and decisions, while others do not.
