Abstract
Abstract prepared by Gia Lanteri and Kathryn Scherman Marie Spivey was born in North Carolina, grew up in Harlem, attended highschool in Manhattan, and continued her education at City College. Marie’s career started in an LGBTQ center in the Bronx, and even after leaving this establishment, she continued to stay connected to the people here. Marie has been working with SAGE for a long time and helps to run the L group in the Bronx center. Marie is involved in many other community groups, such as the Griot Circle, where they meet occasionally to discuss politics, mental health, current events, and any other topics they find important. Marie is also a caregiver to many seniors in the LGBTQ community center. Additionally, Marie has been featured in interviews with the Bronx Times 101 and Spectrum News. She has also received several community accolades, including the Citation of Merit Award and an award presented by the Bronx Borough President (we do not know the exact name).
